Roy Kearley of Wortley Football Club will be working with the children in Year 1 this term. He is looking for volunteers who would be interested in helping to the new football team of boys and girls under the age of 7. The club will cover the cost (through the funding provided) to send parents and volunteers on recognised Football Association Coaching Courses, First Aid and Child Protection Workshops so they have the required certification in place to manage the new team. The club will also support the new teams in terms of coaching and refereeing provision for the first year. Through membership and subscriptions the team will become self funding after Year 1.

Dear Parent/Guardian
Sometime ago I wrote to you to say that when Mr Hughes returned after half term he would be teaching Year 6 and Mrs Duffy Year 5.
However, due to our transition arrangements with Mount St Mary's High being different this year it is preferable for Mrs Duffy to remain in Year 6 until the end of the year and Mr Hughes in Year 5.
Dear Parent/Guardian
I hope that you will all enjoy the half term break. I would like to take this opportunity, now that new staff have been appointed to give you the list of teachers for next year and their assigned classes. Nursery - Mrs Ruane Reception - Mrs Hartley Year 1 - Miss Wolfe
Year 2 - Miss Jenkinson Year 3 - Miss Blackburn Year 4 - Mr Biedka Year 5 - Mr Hughes Year 6 - Mrs Duffy Sun Hats.
Hopefully we shall soon have some sunshine. School sun hats are available from Mrs. Crosthwaite for £3.00. We do not allow children to wear baseball caps.

3rd March 2009 Re contact with other children/parents in the playground.
I am writing to remind you that it is not permitted to accost another child or parent/guardian in the playground regarding any problem you may have. If you have any problem relating to the behaviour of any child or parent/guardian please contact school to arrange an appointment with the class teacher / Head or Deputy.
Failure to do so may result in the Legal Services of Education Leeds taking out an injunction order against you.
Door to Key Stage 2 playground.
A number of parents have started to come into school in the evening via this door. This is leading to congestion in the corridor. If you have something to discuss with a teacher please ring up and make an appointment.
Yours sincerely
P. O'Connor
9th February 2009.
Thank you to all those who recently returned questionnaires. 84% of children replied most favourably to every question. 16% gave some negative replies. From the parental questionnaires 66% replied in the most favourable category and 34% replied usually / sometimes.
Comments included:
1. Lack of understanding of the house system. Mr. Hughes is sending a letter out to explain this further.
2. More examples needed for Numeracy. Mrs. Hartley had already sent out a booklet containing several examples but this booklet will be put on the website soon. If you prefer an additional hard copy please let school know.
3. Perception of children with behavioural difficulties being rewarded more than others. We shall be revising our policy after half-term and will get back to you on this matter.
4. Participation in Sports Day. We are looking into greater parental participation this year.
Enterprise Initiative
Holy Family have been taking part in an Enterprise initiative. Each class was allocated a sum of money and the children had to decide on creative and innovative ways of spending the money to make a profit. We certainly have some budding entrepreneurs at Holy Family! The children certainly enjoyed coming up with ideas, being creative and making money! However that's not the only thing the children have learnt through this initiative, the children also learnt the lesson of spending and saving their money appropriately.
Year 1 charged people to enter a Mario Kart league on the smart board after school. They made chocolate crispy buns and decorated gingerbread men to sell on the night and make a profit.
Year 2 raffled a beautiful gingerbread house and organised a coffee morning all parents were invited to attend.
Year 3 came up with the idea of a games cafe for the children to use at play time. The children could pay to enter competitions and play games. Toast and drinks were on sale as well. Year 3 also raffled a cool remote control dinosaur.
Year 4 thought about doing a talent show after school where drinks and snacks would be on sale. Year 4 organised a playtime wii games event.
Year 5 sold tickets to a cinema night after school. Drinks and snacks were on sale that night, including a chocolate fountain! The children also made lots of bookmarks and other things to sell around school. Some children took the idea further and made things at home to sell at school.
Year 6 did a football tournament at a lunchtime and sold tickets to a youth club after school. The children made a variety of cards, sweets, biscuits and other things to sell at their valentines stall.
Collection of Year 2 Children at the end of the School day
As from Monday 12th January we are experimenting with Year 2 children being picked up at the entrance to the Year 2 classroom from the playground. In the morning the children will line up as usual with Reception and Year 1 in the playground outside the office. Key Stage 2 children will still be collected from the door at the end of the corridor leading to the playground.
Lunchtime Behaviour
We have adopted a new procedure for lunchtime behaviour. If a child repeatedly behaves in a manner which is unaceptable they will be referred to Mrs Papadakis the lunchtime supervisor. If following a warning, this type of behaviour is repeated a referral will be made to the class teacher. If the unacceptable behaviour is then repeated a referral will be made to Mrs O'Connor and the parents will be requested to make an appointment to discuss the matter.
Mrs O'Connor
Mrs O'Connor will resign from her post at Holy Family Primary as of 31st August 2009. She will be working part time in the School improvement Section of North Lincolnshire County Council.
